To try and mitigate the ensuing backlash of canceling WWE 2K21, 2K had Saber Interactive work on WWE 2K Battlegrounds, which was recently given away for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Now, after taking a year-long break, 2K has good news for wrestling fans out there.
WWE 2K22 is shaping up to be a fantastic game
According to Forbes writer Brian Mazique, people familiar with the development of WWE 2K22 have told him that the gameplay is “fantastic” and that the game is using a rebuilt engine. He later added that his sources have told him that WWE 2K22 will have “cleaner” controls and that it would feel like a “wrestling fan’s wrestling game”. While these aren’t exactly qualitative statements, Brian is a noteworthy source. Not to mention, the earlier WWE 2K22 reveal does make the revised game look miles ahead of its predecessors in terms of graphics and gameplay. Of course, the only way that we can know for sure is when WWE 2K22 releases. Until then, we recommend taking everything we and Brian just said with a grain of salt. In other WWE 2K22 news, SmackDown’s play-by-play commentator, Michael Cole, recently revealed in a late-July WWE SmackDown episode that WWE 2K22 is using a new game engine. His statements also echo what Brian said about the game having improved fighting controls.
When is the WWE 2K22 release date?
So far, all the things that we have heard about WWE 2K22 are that it’s going to be a good game. Whether or not it will redeem the WWE 2K series or bury it even further is something that we’ll just have to wait and see to find out. Speaking of, 2K and Take-Two Interactive announced that WWE 2K22 will release in fall 2021. We can assume that the target for the game to release is October 2021. This has been the usual release month for the WWE 2K games for nearly a decade.
