Since then, the story of The Matrix universe has been expanded on in video games, animation, and comic books, but never in another film - until now.
The latest teaser for The Matrix Resurrections has fans excited
Those who followed CinemaCon 2021 got themselves quite the treat as the showcase included the first-ever footage from the upcoming The Matrix sequel. According to the information revealed at CinemaCon 2021, Resurrections will see Neo assume his Matrix identity once again, but with no knowledge of Thomas Anderson’s identity as The One. How exactly this happened is something that we’ll only know for sure once the film premieres. But, if it’s any consolation, Warner Bros. did release dozens of teaser images for Resurrections that revealed both returning and new characters. Fans can also look forward to the first official trailer for Resurrections that’s set to drop on September 9 at 6:00 AM PT. Keanu Reeves is among the several returning stars from the original Matrix trilogy. Carrie-Anne Moss is also expected to reprise her role as Trinity. Other returning stars include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe and Neil Patrick Harris as Neo’s therapist. Meanwhile, the teaser images also show that the film will have a long list of newcomers with currently unconfirmed roles including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, and Jessica Henwick, among others. As much uncertainty there is for Resurrections, the wait for the film’s premiere isn’t too long. The latest The Matrix film will drop sometime in December 2021. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros. ends up moving the timeline up by a couple of weeks. In an unprecedented move, Sony decided to make the premiere of Venom: Let There Be Carnage happen two weeks earlier. If the decision is successful, don’t be surprised if other films like Resurrections follow suit, provided they are in a position to of course.
