According to The Wrap, Thor 4 is scheduled to undergo reshoots and “additional photography in the next few weeks.”
Naturally, fans are concerned that the reshoots mean that Marvel Studios might push back Thor: Love and Thunder to a later date. Several upcoming Phase Four films of the MCU had already been delayed last year, and with the DCEU pushing back The Flash, among others, due to reshoots, you can’t blame fans for jumping to conclusions. While reshoots often mean delays, this isn’t always the case with Marvel Studios. In recent years, Marvel Studios has “mastered” the art of doing reshoots just months if not weeks before a film is released. Case in point, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, went through reshoots as well. Some are theorizing that Taika Waiti isn’t necessarily redoing certain scenes, but rather, he is just adding stuff to Thor 4 that Marvel Studios couldn’t risk leaking. Judging by how many narrative twists each MCU film has, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case. Thor: Love and Thunder will pick up exactly where 2019’s Avengers: Endgame left off. After Thor beat Thanos and obesity (presumably), he’ll now have to find a way to triumph against his former flame, Nataline Portman’s Jane Foster. From what we know so far about Thor 4, Foster will somehow find herself with the powers of Thor, a storyline inspired by the comic books. Once again, Waititi will return following his success with 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which all but guarantees that Love and Thunder will be one heck of a trip. In addition to Waititi, Hemsworth, and Foster, Love and Thunder will see Tess Thompson reprise her role from Ragnarok as Valkyrie with Christine Bale playing the sinister Marvel villain, Gorr the God Butcher. Reshoots or not, fans had a lengthy wait to see more of Love and Thunder anyway. Most likely, Marvel Studios will drop the first trailer for Love and Thunder as a post-credits scene for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, similar to what they did with Benedict Cumberbatch’s second MCU feature film and Spider-Man: No Way Home. TLDR; Thor 4 undergo reshoots and don’t expect a trailer until after Doctor Strange 2 hits theaters on May 6.
