Although the involvement of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern, in Jurassic World: Dominion is no secret, the first official Jurassic World: Dominion trailer - the trailer that was released last year was for the prologue - gives audiences their first look at all three reprising their iconic roles. Dominion, which will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, will follow the events of 2018’s Fallen Kingdom in a world where dinosaurs have been unleashed to the rest of the world. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to say that humanity isn’t going to survive living like this for so long. But, it will take the combined help of a Chaos Theory specialist, paleobotanist, as well as paleontologist, a former U.S. Navy, and a former parks operation manager, to try and save the world. Kudos to Universal Pictures for resisting the temptation of waiting for a last-second reveal of the OG Jurassic Park cast’s return or doing a Spider-Man: No Way Home and not showing them in trailers. The trailer takes no time re-introducing Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm, to audiences, showing that all three will take on prominent roles as opposed to short cameos. Universal also reserved the best for last, with a shot of all three of them standing side by side. Admittedly, it was also chilling to see all three with Owen and Claire as well. Dominion will find itself under a tremendous amount of pressure. Both 2015’s Jurassic World and 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom cracked a billion dollars at the global box office. For a while, Jurassic World was the third-highest-grossing film of all time before settling for 7th place following the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on and a potential surge this summer, Dominion might end up falling short of financial expectations. The silver lining here is that Universal has dialed things up to 11, showcasing a reality where dinosaurs and humans are both all alive at the same time. Only time will tell if Dominion will do as well if not outdo its predecessors at the global box office. Thankfully, audiences won’t have to wait too long to see Dominion. The upcoming blockbuster film is expected to drop in theaters on June 10.
