The upcoming spinoff to The Boys, Prime’s multi-Emmy-nominated black comedy, follows a set of young and hopeful Supes (to-be?) at Godolkin University. Unlike your typical school, Godolkn specializes in molding the future model superheroes of humanity. And, of course, preparing them for a life-long contractual obligation to Vought Industries, the mega-corporation responsible for the fiasco that’s going on in the show’s reality. Based on the montage-heavy teaser trailer, Gen V strikes every chord of the original series, goofiness, gore and all. But, unlike The Boys, Gen V makes it very clear that these Supes are still coming into their own. Unlike the uber-confident the Seven, Gen V’s crop of Supes are still learning about the limits of their capabilities. If nothing else, this guarantees that the spin-off will be a lot messier if you compare it to the original. Our first look at Gen V establishes that it’s very much like The Boys. However, it gives little in the way of its characters and plot. It’ll be interesting to see how it will fit in with the rest of the budding universe. According to reports, the events of Gen V will run in parallel with The Boys’ incoming fourth season. We’ve already seen main Boys show characters like Jessie T. Usher’s A-Train and Colby Minifie’s Ashley Barrett appear in the teaser, so it wouldn’t be a big surprise if other mainstays crossover as well. We know audiences would pay good money to see the ever-unhinged tyrannical ruler of the Seven, Homelander, mentor the students of Godolkin University. After seeing Prime Video’s first spin-off, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, earlier this year, we have high hopes for Gen V. Fingers crossed, it blows past all our expectations when it’s out on Prime Video next year ahead of The Boys Season 4, which officially began filming in August.
