Now, more than a decade later, Konami has once again tapped Gans to helm the franchise’s cinematic reboot. During Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission announcement stream, the studio confirmed that Return to Silent Hill will borrow heavily from the plot of the original Silent Hill 2. The 2001 game is widely considered one of the best psychological survival horror games in history. Its story revolves around a man who stumbles upon Silent Hill while searching for the lost love of his life. But, what started as a romantic quest ended up being a nightmare filled with his own self-trauma and manifestations of his inner demons. However, most will know about Silent Hill 2 as the one with Pyramid Head. According to Konami’s head of IP and cross-media development for Silent Hill, Rui Naito, the new live-action movie came as a packaged pitch alongside the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team from one of the original producers, Victor Hadida. This isn’t the first time that Gans’ name has been linked with a Silent Hill reboot. Gans revealed in June that Konami was working on several games as part of a larger reboot. We now know that this slate of projects includes Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team. Interestingly enough, the reports came around the same time that rumors that Konami would announce remasters of the first three Metal Gear Solid games. We haven’t gotten word of the aforementioned remaster bundle yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll get them soon. For now, the focus is on Silent Hill and everything that’s coming to the franchise in the next few years. Fingers crossed, Konami will give Capcom a good run for its money, especially now that the lineup for its planned showcase for tomorrow is looking relatively slim.
