As a matter of fact, the legendary The Sims designer is already working on a new title, one that he hopes to ask the extensive modding community of The Sims franchise to help him out.
Will Wright Solicits Help from Sims Modders
It’s no secret that The Sims is one of the largest video games around. The life simulation video game franchise has sold more than 200 million units throughout its lifetime. To date, expansion packs are still being released for the latest title, The Sims 4, which first launched in 2014. With that said, part of the success of The Sims is also owed to its modding community. The said congregation of like-minded individuals have spent years making each game wilder than perhaps Wright could have ever imagined. As such, it certainly makes a lot of sense for the guy that essentially gave birth to the franchise to ask for help. In a message sent to The Sims 4 subforum over at Nexus and the Mod The Sims content website, Wrights talks about how he is working on a “strange new project where your memories become the gaming landscape.” He then proceeds to discuss launching what’s essentially an invitation-only open beta test where the accepted applications will reportedly have a chance to “go behind the scenes, collaborate with the dev team, and earn credit for their creations!”. Most likely, this “private pre-launch community” is connected to Proxi, which Wright described as an “AI simulation game”. Wright’s latest project with his new studio, Gallium Studios, is a mobile game that will reportedly let players interact with their own subconscious. As a matter of fact, the official site explicitly mentions giving players “the ability to integrate their own assets into the game.” Of course, this could also be for an entirely different game. Enough time has passed that Wright may have decided to scrap the entire project completely to work on a new one. Either way, Wright’s first project in more than a decade seems very exciting. Hopefully, he’ll have learned a thing or two from the failure of Spore so that his new video game doesn’t end up suffering from the same fate.
