Rayman 4 was supposed to be the next numbered sequel after Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, which came out in 2003. It’s believed that work on Rayman 4 was discontinued after just four months, which explains the relatively barren content found in the leak. The concept was later used for the spin-off, Rayman Raving Rabbids.

It’s unclear if this Rayman 4 content dump includes files for its spin-off, Rayman Raving Rabbids. Having said that, the community could use the leaked source code and editor to complete the project and give audiences a glimpse of what the original developers, Phoenix Studio, had originally planned. As for Rayman, the franchise has lived on in spin-offs and non-numbered sequels. Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends came out in 2011 and 2013, respectively, to critical acclaim. Meanwhile, the spin-offs, which include Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, have met similar success. Fans are hoping that the leak can reignite interest in the mainline Rayman series and give Ubisoft the idea of bringing the limbless hero to modern platforms. Speaking of Ubisoft, the French publisher is in the midst of reviving some of its old and forgotten classics like Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell.
