In an interview with Collider, Reeves revealed that the BatVerse will continue to exist separate from what the universe James Gunn is building, saying: Last year’s The Batman was one of the biggest films of the COVID-19 pandemic era of movies. It eventually closed out a critically-acclaimed theatrical run with close to $800 million at the global box office. It ended up getting a sequel as well as spin-offs starring Colin Farrell’s Penguin and another one that will reportedly revolve around Arkham Asylum. It’s believed a different film featuring the Gotham PD is in development as well. Although the later reports claimed that a sequel to The Batman isn’t officially greenlit yet, Matt Reeves’ recent statement is hinting it’s all but a sure thing already - you can’t call a single film with no spin-off TV shows and sequels a cinematic universe, after all. With that said, we’re still waiting on James Gunn and his co-CEO, Peter Safran, to tell us more about their ten-year plan for the DC Universe. The only thing confirmed right now is that it’s going to feature a younger Superman. Aside from this, all we have to go on are rumors claiming that Ezra Miller is still going to be a part of the DCU after The Flash premieres. Also, since we’re talking about The Flash, do keep an eye out for this year’s Super Bowl, where a promo for the upcoming DCU film will be dropped ahead of its launch on June 16.
