The good news is that Marvel Studios finally has a release date, or rather a window, for the upcoming Samuel L. Jackson-led show. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be anytime soon. According to Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney Plus in spring 2023. This feels like a gut punch to anyone expecting to watch Secret Invasion before the year ended or at least early next year. It’s worth noting that Secret Invasion had begun filming quite some time ago, with leaked set photos revealing when it might take place in the MCU timeline. With the latest reveal, Secret Invasion is now a part of Phase 5 of the MCU - not Phase 4, as originally thought. In the comic books, Secret Invasion helped start the eventual invasion of the shapeshifting alien Skrulls of Earth. Things got so bad for Earth that the Skrulls had replaced popular figures and even superheroes with doppelgangers before things came to a head. It will be interesting to see how the MCU will shift the narrative on the Skrulls. Up until the premier of Secret Invasion, audiences saw the Skrulls as one of the good guys. Then again, we’re pretty sure some Skrulls will side with Nick Fury in this conflict We already know Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, a Skrull leader, who is a close ally of Fury and was last seen talking to the real Fury in space in a post-credits scene from 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. In addition Clarke, Mendelsohn, and Jackson, Secret Invasion will see Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill and Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes, among several other returning and fresh faces. Given that we’re talking about the Skrulls, we should see doppelgangers of even more MCU characters, including the ones that are already deceased. TLDR; Secret Invasion will be a real guessing game as audiences will try to find out who the Skrull is and who isn’t. In other MCU news, Marvel Studios confirmed that Phase 4 is ending later this year with the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also, the Black Panther sequel has an official first trailer. By the looks of it, Marvel Studios is looking to Phase 4 on a high note.
