Unfortunately, this isn’t what happened - Dead Island 2 has actually been postponed indefinitely since 2017! Since then, there’ve been plenty of news about Dead Island 2’s progress and release, but it appears that the most recent piece of information might have just confirmed that the game is very much on Deep Silver’s docket.
According to Tom Henderson, his sources have told him that Dambuster Studios is actively working on Dead Island 2. Furthermore, Henderson claims that Deep Silver is eyeing a release between Q4 2022 and early 2023. Finally, Henderson adds that Deep Silver might make a more formal announcement soon. What’s also interesting here is that, as per GamesRadar, Dead Island 2 is in “active development,” corroborating Henderson’s latest leak about Dead Island 2. Assuming that Dead Island 2 is coming in a year, we’d have to give Deep Silver credit for seeing the project through. The sequel to the 2011 zombie title has switched multiple hands throughout its tumultuous development cycle, with Techland working on the game before Yager took over followed by Sumo Digital, and finally, Dambuster Studios. After so many studios, one can only imagine just how differently Dead Island 2 will look from what audiences saw many years ago. For now, hopeful fans will have no choice but to wait for Deep Silver to release more official information about Dead Island 2. In other news, Techland released a spiritual sequel to Dead Island in 2015. The game got a follow-up earlier this month in, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which isn’t a critical darling but is on track to be a financial success with 3 million units already sold as of the time of writing.
