Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War enjoyed similar success as well, with the former making just a little over two billion dollars after its theatrical run ended. We can even throw in Sony and Marvel’s latest joint venture, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which barely missed the $2 billion mark at $1.901 billion, as of the latest counting.
With so many decorated threequels in the MCU, it’s only natural that Marvel Studios’, Kevin Feige, wants to use them as the inspiration for Ryan Reynolds’ entry, Deadpool 3. We’ve known ever since Disney acquired FOX that Reynolds’ mouthy red jumpsuit-wearing vigilante will join the MCU. However, there’s genuine concern among fans about Deadpool 3 and how it will fit in the MCU. Even though the House of Mouse proved that it’s open to R-rated shows and films after making changes earlier this year, Deadpool is unlike anything that’s currently in the MCU. We’re pretty sure that Deadpool 3 will be different from its predecessors. But, if Feige’s words are anything to go by, the changes will be for the better. Here’s what Feige had to say to THR at SDCC about Deadpool 3: The eponymous comic book character’s fourth-wall-breaking nature makes him the natural choice for the now-multiversal cinematic universe. Since the events of Deadpool 3 will take place within the mainline MCU timeline, it would make sense for Deadpool 3 to be a part of Phase 6. So far, Marvel Studios hasn’t given Deadpool 3 a release date, and we know that it is not going to be a part of Phase 5. So much remains uncertain about Deadpool 3 for now. The only sure thing is that Deadpool 3 will serve as a litmus test for other R/TV-MA films in the MCU as Daredevil: Born Again is expected to do the same for R/TV-MA MCU shows. (Just to be clear, we’re not sure if the MCU’s Daredevil reboot will be R-rated like Netflix’s). The good news is that Deadpool 3 has already found a capable director in Shawn Levy. Levy and Reynolds have worked together in other comedy action films such as Free Guy and The Adam Project. Judging by their history together, we can expect great things to come out of their upcoming collaboration. In the meantime, MCU fans can look forward to watching Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters on November 11 later this year.
