With the San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, John Cena decided to give audiences a very welcome surprise. The best part? He didn’t appear as John Cena, instead going full Peacemaker complete with his official costume for the upcoming HBO Max TV show.
John Cena loves playing Peacemaker
Cena isn’t new to playing make-believe. He’s been one of the top performers of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and is a future Hall of Famer. However, in recent years, he’s been stepping away from the ring more often to do movies. One of his latest outings was James Gunn’s critically-beloved The Suicide Squad, where he took on the role of Peacemaker. During the movie’s premiere, John Cena was seen wearing his costume, proving just how much he loves his DCEU alter-ego. With that said, fans have high hopes for James Gunn’s return in the DCEU as he helms most of the episodes for the Peacemaker TV series. In addition to John Cena as the titular anti-hero, the series will also star the likes of Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, Robert Patric, Jennifer Holland, and Freddie Stroma, among others. Fans have waited for Peacemaker to arrive ever since production wrapped up in Canada last July. As we’ve already mentioned, James Gunn will direct the majority of the episodes of the first season, including the pilot and the finale. However, Gunn is credited as the writer for every episode. Rest assured that his fingerprints will be all over the series. Here’s to hoping that Peacemaker can help salvage the box-office bomb that was James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Speaking of Suicide Squad, Jared Leto recently made waves when he openly asked for Warner Bros. to release David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad, which was released in 2016, on HBO Max. Unlike James Gunn’s film, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad did much better at the box office. It’s currently the third-highest-grossing DCEU film ever even though it was “incomplete” and had several scenes cut out from it.
