The duo of Gunn and Safran are reportedly separating the creative and business sides of DC Studios. Gunn will lead the creative side while Safran will handle the movie outfit’s business aspect. After the news of Gunn’s hiring, fans have been asking when audiences will see the impact of his leadership in DC. Gunn is famed for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy series for the MCU, as well as The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for DC. Recently, the director turned co-CEO took to Instagram to address fan questions and revealed the next slate of DC movies under his watch. Gunn revealed the movie poster of Blue Beetle on the social media site and was asked if the upcoming film would be “the first movie under his guidance.” Gunn answered the question in two parts, stating that he will help with the release of upcoming movies, but the new slate of films under his guidance will start after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. “Peter and I will help to guide the already filmed projects for the next year, but the new slate won’t start until after Aquaman 2,” the director replied. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will come out in December 2023. Before that, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle will released under DC Studios. The Shazam sequel and Aquaman were pushed back to 2023 while The Flash had to do reshoots. One user pointed out to Gunn that the five movies (from Black Adam to Aquaman 2) “have nothing to do with [him]” as they were filmed before he was hired as co-CEO. The director replied in a slightly sarcastic tone hinting that he had some influence in the post-production of these films. “I wish you’d told me this before I started giving notes,” Gunn in jest. It is still unclear what movies are part of the new slate of films for DC Studios. We previously reported that sequels may be coming our way, headlined by Man of Steel 2 and Wonder Woman 3. A movie for Black Canary and Static Shock as well as a Batman sequel are also reportedly being worked on. It will be fascinating to see Gunn and Safran’s ten-year plan for the DC Universe come to fruition. However, we’ll need to wait for at least one year before seeing the first fruits of this new era in DC.
