Jackman got a chance to sit down and talk on The Empire Film Podcast where he revealed his plans for future Marvel movies after Deadpool 3, saying: On one hand, Jackman isn’t confirming his role in a future MCU movie, let alone Avengers: Secret Wars. On the other hand, he’s also leaving himself open to other options. Jackman already has nine appearances as Wolverine under his belt, so we doubt he’s itching to get back into the saddle anytime soon. He’s mentioned several times that the prep work involved for the role takes a huge toll on him, physically and mentally. At 54, Jackman isn’t getting any younger. But, this is also another reason why Jackman should join the MCU. The Mutants, including the X-Men, aren’t expected to take on a larger role in the MCU until 2025 and onwards. Multiple appearances in the MCU starting with his highly-anticipated debut in Deadpool 3 would give him a few more years to play as Wolverine before stepping away and “coming back” to his original timeline. Of course, all of this talk is for nothing if Deadpool 3 doesn’t perform up to Marvel Studios’ usual standards. The first two Deadpool films combined for a total of a little over 1.5 billion at the global box office. Deadpool 3 will need to do just as well if not better. The combined star power of Jackman and Reynolds, among others, might be enough to guarantee that. But, until Deadpool 3 premieres on November 8, 2024, we won’t know for sure. With more than three years until Avengers: Secret Wars makes its debut, Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios has plenty of time to brainstorm ideas for the upcoming massive outing. For now, fans will just have to “settle” for Jackman’s lone confirmed appearance in the MCU in Deadpool 3. For what it’s worth, Feige claims that Marvel Studios is looking to Avengers: Infinity War for inspiration for Deadpool 3. If they find what they’re looking for, Deadpool 3 could meet expectations as one of the MCU’s most ambitious projects to date.
