Kojima was his usual enigmatic self at the ceremony, joking around about he had to rewrite Death Stranding 2 multiple times because he didn’t want to predict any more worldwide tragedies. It’s worth noting that Death Stranding, in a nutshell, tells the story of an isolated world that’s heavily reliant on porters after a pandemic ravaged the entire planet.

All jokes aside, the first Death Stranding 2 trailer is as bizarre as it can get. It also confirms the return of Fragile, which Kojima heavily hinted at in a recent tease. We see Léa Seydoux’s character attempt to escape with her baby before a hooded figure shoots her. We’re also treated to a look at a handful of new characters as well as the return of Norman Reedus’ character, Sam, who looks like he’s aged quite a bit after coming out of what we can only assume is some futuristic form of hibernation. Given that this is a Kojima game, we can expect his fans to dissect every second of the initial Death Stranding 2 trailer to find out what else we can expect from the game that Kojima is refusing to tell us directly. Death Stranding came out in 2019 to an audience skeptical about what Hideo Kojima could come up with after being heavily associated with the Metal Gear franchise for decades. This is the result of Kojima breaking free from Konami. Death Stranding is easily one of his best games and it appears to have kickstarted a new franchise for the now-independent studio, Kojima Productions. Now, the question is, what else is Kojima working on? We know Kojima has partnered with Microsoft and Xbox for what we can only presume is an exclusive title. The rumors suggest he’s also working on Overdose, which is a horror game featuring Margaret Qualley that just keeps on leaking online. Fingers crossed, we won’t have to wait for the next The Game Awards to find out what else Kojima has up his sleeve.
