Why did CDPR delay the next-gen versions of Witcher 3 and CP2077?

Unfortunately, the company did not provide any reason behind the delay of both next-gen upgrades. Instead, CDPR ended its statement by saying that it wanted to “make it right”, whatever that means. Interestingly enough, the statement comes just a day after The Witcher 3’s next-gen upgrade was supposed to release. A PEGI listing for The Witcher 3 confirmed that the 2015 title should have been released on October 19, 2021, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. We’re also curious to find out why the next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3 is taking longer compared to Cyberpunk 2077. Technically, CDPR should have an easier time making the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s a far more optimized game with a robust modding community. The resources are already there to release a “better-looking” version of The Witcher 3 for the Xbox Series S/X and the PS5. Instead, CDPR will release the enhanced version of the game in the second quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen version is going to come earlier in Q1 2022. The silver lining here is that CDPR is making both next-gen upgrades free to last-gen owners of the games and that it appears to have learned from its earlier mistakes. After overpromising and overhyping but ultimately underdelivering with Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED is now exercising much more caution than before.
