Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been breaking records since its launch. The game made over $800 million in its first weekend of launch, breaking the previous record held in 2011 by one of its predecessors. The game also crossed $1 billion in sales over its first ten days of launch. Modern Warfare 2 has been consistently in the top 10 list of best-seller games on Steam since its launch and once again has reached the top of the list by beating Elden Ring. And, the latter is not easy to beat, given its popularity and winning the Game of the Year award, beating some of the industry’s leading games like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West. Modern Warfare 2 may not have won anything during the Game Awards, but it managed to secure at least three different nominations, including the game of the year award, the best sound design award, and the best action game award. There have been a lot of mixed feelings among the fans about the launch of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Despite all the early bugs and glitches found in the game and occasional outburst of community outrage, the game has managed to surpass every expectation in terms of sales. And we don’t see it stopping anytime soon, given we’re only halfway through the first season. Modern Warfare 2 is also introducing new content every season and mid-season, and currently, there is a lot of hype around the new raids coming with season 1 reloaded. PlayStation 5 console sales have also seen a surge in sales as we approach the holiday season. According to NPD, PS5 sales were up 45% in November, resulting in a massive increase in the PS5 consumer count overall. This may have helped the hardware sales and game sales, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
